Labor `N Love

Purpose: Serving the needy and disadvantaged of rural Appalachia, Columbiana County, Ohio.

The City of East Liverpool, Ohio is located in eastern Ohio, along the banks of the Ohio River.  This community of 13,000 has experienced significant unemployment and poverty due to the loss of jobs from the vanishing pottery industry.  Many area homes are in danger of condemnation due to a lack of maintenance and ongoing support.  The Way Station has identified homes that can be salvaged with loving care from missions volunteers.  What a ministry opportunity and a witness to the neighbors in the community.

Housing Facilities: There are two sleeping areas that can sleep 30-40 people. A total of three kitchens that are furnished with cooking utensils, dishes, appliances, etc. A sitting room. A total of five restrooms, one shower, washer and dryer. Groups must provide sleeping bags, air mattress and pillows.

Projects: Painting is a common Labor `n Love project.  Other jobs frequently done include porch repair, ramp building, dry walling, plastering and general cleaning inside and outside of the homes.  Projects will be customized to the leader's level of construction knowledge.

Ministry Opportunities: Opportunities for ministry and witness come in both planned and unexpected ways. Be open to the leading of the Spirit as you interact with neighbors. Groups are encouraged to minister from the front porch. Start playing a guitar or handing out hot dogs and you are sure to attract a crowd. Groups can do crafts, tell stories, puppet shows, Block Party's the sky is the limit! We have ministry opportunities at our Ezra Center which is a residential treatment center for addicted Teens. And at our Youth Build program which assist young adults 18-24 with job skills and obtaining their High School diploma. Your group may also work at one of our sites distributing food and clothing.

Leadership:  One adult supervisor (over 24) must be provided for every 5 youth who attend.  Adults should have a keen interest in developing their youth spiritually and emotionally.  The Way Station offers only general site supervision.  Pre-site visits are encouraged.

Cost: The below fee includes:
