Labor `N Love

Purpose: Serving the needy and disadvantaged of rural Appalachia, Columbiana County, Ohio.

The City of East Liverpool, Ohio is located in eastern Ohio, along the banks of the Ohio River.  This community of 13,000 has experienced significant unemployment and poverty due to the loss of jobs from the vanishing pottery industry.  Many area homes are in danger of condemnation due to a lack of maintenance and ongoing support.  The Way Station has identified homes that can be salvaged with loving care from missions volunteers.  What a ministry opportunity and a witness to the neighbors in the community.

Housing: The Way Station provides a house for use by the teams coming to serve.  The house is located in the neighborhood where the service will be conducted.  The neighbors are quite friendly and the children love visitors.

The house has three bedrooms and can sleep 22 people comfortably.  The kitchen is furnished with cooking utensils, dishes, appliances, etc.  There is a dining room and sitting/gathering room as well as two bathrooms.  Groups must provide sleeping bags and  pillows.

Projects: Painting is a common Labor `n Love project.  Other jobs frequently done include porch repair, ramp building, dry walling, plastering and general cleaning inside and outside of the homes.  Projects will be customized to the leader's level of construction knowledge.

Ministry Opportunities: Opportunities for ministry and witness come in both planned and unexpected ways.  Groups are encouraged to interact with the neighborhood, to sit on the front porch and sing.  Block parties, Back Yard Bible Clubs, crafts, puppet shows, drama, clowning are all welcome ministry opportunities.

Leadership:  One adult supervisor (over 24) must be provided for every 5 youth who attend.  Adults should have a keen interest in developing their youth spiritually and emotionally.  The Way Station offers only general site supervision.  Pre-site visits are encouraged.

Cost: The below fee includes:

  • Basic foods that are stocked for breakfast and lunch.

  • Evening meals to be provided by local churches.

  • All building materials for projects.

For one week there is a one time, non-refundable Administrative Fee of $300.00 plus $125.00 per person.

For a Weekend there is a one time, non-refundable Administrative Fee of $75.00 plus $20.00 per person per night.
