TEAM Center
War, West Virginia
Located in the southern part of West
Virginia is the small town of War, population 987. War is
the southern-most city in West Virginia and in it's heyday was a
booming coalmining community. Today the city and the
county face high unemployment and poverty.
In 1999, Debbie King, a preschool
teacher in McDowell County and a member of Calvary Baptist
Church, felt a deep burden to help the children and youth. She
started the TEAM Center. TEAM stand for "Together Everyone
Accomplishes More."
Through the TEAM Center she helps
children and youth to find a place where they are loved,
respected and can hear the gospel.
In 2002, recognizing the growing
substance problem, Debbie helped start a task force to help the
children and youth to understand the dangers of drugs and
alcohol and to stay drug free. At the TEAM Center
Christian Counseling is offered.
Following the 2001 floods in
McDowell County, Debbie worked with the local agencies and
mission teams to assist in home repair projects.
