Appalachian Outreach Home Repair Ministry receives church mission groups the first week of June through the first week of August. These groups begin with an Orientation on Sunday night and work Monday through Thursday. They repair poverty level homes in a five county area surrounding Jefferson City, Tenn.

We also have a homeless shelter that AO operates called Samaritan House. The home is for families and single women, who stay up to 45 days while receiving Christian council, social services and assistance in finding a place to live.

AO operates the Appalachian Outreach Ministry Center (which includes home repair, used clothing, used furniture, food distribution, Hispanic ministry and computer training center).

Summer Mission Opportunities

Appalachian Outreach has several mission options for church mission teams and individuals:

(1) If you are interested in sending a summer mission team, AO received groups (June 6th-July 29) who work a four day work-week (arriving Sun. night for orientation and working Mon.-Thurs., then leaving on Thurs. morning to go home or for recreation in the Gatlinburg/east Tenn. area). Groups can do home repair, clothing/food ministry, and/or children's ministry etc. For more information go to our website at http://web.cn.edu/ao/ .

Call Jean-Ann Washam, A.O. Director, at 865-475-5611 for more information.

(2) For individuals (senior in high school or older) who wants to work as AO Summer Staff (this is a 10 week commitment for the whole summer, working May 23-Aug 3) applications can be obtained from our Appalachian Outreach web-site at: http://web.cn.edu/ao/

(3) As an individual mission worker with our summer project for a four day work week during one of the weeks mentioned above.

(4) or as a regular volunteer working for a weekend or other period of time.
